Mr. Paul E. Risinger graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1955. He earned an AB Degree in Education and Social Studies from the University of South Carolina, while working at the John L. Hensel Company.
Risinger began his teaching career at Airport Middle School in 1959 with an annual salary of $2,937. His duties included Social Studies teacher, Chairman of the Social Studies Department, Student Council Advisor and B-Team basketball coach. He moved to Airport High School, where he became Principal in 1962. He left Airport High School in 1966 to work for the State Department of Education, but stayed only 1 year because he "missed interacting with students." He returned to Airport High School for 1 year, and then moved to Edmunds High School in Sumter for 1 year. He again returned to Lexington District II where he served until his retirement. He became Principal of Brookland-Cayce High School in 1971. His tenure at B-C lasted nine years, during which the curriculum grew, and students received an excellent education. From 1980 to 1999, Risinger served District Two as Coordinator of Elementary and Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Assistant Superintendent for Business Management, Consultant for Business Management, Assistant Administrator of the Distinctive Education Center, Interim Principal of Airport High School, Interim Superintendent in 1997, and Special Assistant to the Superintendent. In 1998 he returned to B-C as Interim Principal, and remained there until his retirement in 1999. Paul Risinger served District Two in a variety of capacities, and was always willing to do whatever job came his way in order to serve the District and his community. Mr. Risinger still holds membership in many professional organizations, including the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, the National Education Association, and the South Carolina Education Association. He has served as an officer of the BC Association of Classroom Teachers, as Executive Secretary of the SC Association of Secondary Principals, as a Member of the Supervisory Committee of the LexCo Federal Credit Union, and as a Member and Chairman of the State Secondary Committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Since retiring, Risinger has been working at Glen Forest School, where he is currently Associate Head. The stories of young lives he has touched in his varied career testify to his aim to make a difference wherever he serves. Risinger says he is most proud of his time at Brookland-Cayce High School with its strength and community loyalty. He said B-C always had teachers who gave students a strong academic preparation for life. He loved watching students grow, mature and become solid citizens. Mr. Risinger can tell many stories of kids who needed adult interest and guidance in order to be successful. He has spent his life giving young people that opportunity, and he isn't finished yet. |
