MRS. ANNE PRICE MOONEYHAN
Inducted 2008
Mrs. Anne Price Mooneyhan was born in West Columbia. She attended Brookland Grammar School and graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1950.

At B-C she excelled academically and participated in numerous extracurricular activities. She earned an English letter and was an honor graduate. She was also voted "Friendliest" in her senior class.

Ann Price Mooneyhan received a Liberal Arts Degree in Religion and Philosophy from Newberry College and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. During this period, she gained valuable experience as a substitute teacher at A.C. Flora High School.

In 1955, Anne Price married Robert (Bob) Mooneyhan. The late Mr. Mooneyhan was also a B-C graduate. He spent his working career in Lexington District Two as a successful coach and teacher.

Mrs. Mooneyhan began work in District Two as a substitute teacher and as a homebound teacher. She left the B-C schools in 1966 to teach at Columbia High School for three years where along with other duties, she helped the school publish their first literary magazine. The 1969 edition was dedicated in her honor.

She returned to Lexington District Two to teach one year at Northside Middle School. She then moved to Brookland-Cayce High School, where she taught in the English Department until she retired in 1988. She served on various department and school committees and was an active member in the Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Sorority and in local, state, and national education associations.

Mrs. Mooneyhan is a member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church, the Cayce Women's Club, the Town and Country Club, a local garden club, and a bridge club. She enjoys visiting with family and friends and sharing memories of her late husband, her extensive travels, and her experiences at B-C High School. One of the highlights of her tenure at B-C was the opportunity to teach next door to her own high school English teacher and personal mentor, the legendary Marguerite McCaskill.

Mrs. Mooneyhan's greatest experience and impact however, was as an English teacher. She loved being around students and delighted in helping them discover new ideas and concepts that would make learning fun. She particularly enjoyed helping students appreciate the value of words in poetry and prose.

Today, nothing makes her happier than seeing her former students succeed. The greatest compliment for her is a student telling her,"I couldn't have made it without you." In fact, people throughout the community still tell her children what a positive role model their mother was. Ultimately, Mrs. Mooneyhan and her family are excellent examples of a Brookland-Cayce High School tradition that continues to this day.
