MRS. JOYCE W. CRIBB Inducted 2005
Mrs. Joyce W. Cribb, a native of Florence, South Carolina, graduated from McClenaghan High School. She earned her BS degree at Columbia College. She obtained her Master's degree from the University of South Carolina and had completed all 30 hours of course work on her Doctorate except for the thesis when she became ill. Mrs. Cribb taught at Brookland-Cayce High School from 1959-61 and from 1967 to 1996 — a total of 32 years. At the same time she taught in the Business Department of Columbia Junior College (now South University) at night for 36 years. For some years she served as Department Head of Office Occupations at B-C. She was the advisor of the Future Business Leaders of America organization, coordinated the student work program, and worked as Business Manager of the Bearcat. Mrs. Cribb also served as a State Department of Education Consultant on book selections for office occupations. She was B-C's representative on the Lexington District II Superintendent's Council and for SAFE Federal Credit Union. She was a member of the NEA, the South Carolina Education Association, the LCEA and the BCEA. She was also a member of Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an honorary teacher society. Mrs. Cribb was active in Virginia Wingard Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees, teaching Sunday School, delivering children's sermons, and advising the MYF. She was Assistant Director of the Children's Choir and directed Christmas pageants. She was twice named 'Teacher of the Year" at B-C. The Bearcat was dedicated to her and she received the Faculty/Student Service Award. Mrs. Cribb was always involved in activities at B-C because of her love for the school, its faculty and its students. She headed many of the school's community projects, such as gathering canned goods for the needy, fund drives, etc. She has been an inspiration to both students and staff for many years.
